of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations
If the vehicle you are towing weighs less than
3087 pounds (1400 kg) and is towed with a
tow bar, brakes are not required if the vehicle
weighs less than 50% of the licensed (net)
weight of the motor home.
If the vehicle you are towing weighs less than
3087 pounds (1400 kg) and is towed with one
axle on a towing dolly, brakes are not required
if the motor home has a gross vehicle weight
rating greater than the sum of the net weight
of the towing dolly, the gross weight of
the vehicle on the dolly and the gross weight
of the motor home.
Division 5 of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations
If the vehicle you are towing weighs less than
4410 pounds (2000 kg) and is less than 40% of
the gross vehicle weight rating of the motor
home towing via tow bar, brakes are not required
on the vehicle.
If the vehicle doesn’t fit any of these exemptions,
brakes are required on all wheels, and if
it should weigh 6173 pounds (2800 kg) or more,
the brakes on the towed vehicle
must be able to
be operated independently from those of the motorhome.
